Located in the centre of Beaune, Caves Patriarche were founded in 1780, it is the largest cellar in Burgundy with no less than 5 km of galleries, some have been in use since the 13th century.

In 1780, Jean-Baptiste Patriarche from Savigny-lès-Beaune created his family wine company “Patriarche Père & Fils” in Beaune, a few years later, in 1798 he moved his premises to a convent of the Order of the Visitation that had been closed down after the revolution in 1791.

In 1941, the descendants of the founder, André Boisseaux and his sons Jacques and Pierre Boisseaux, took the helm of the company “Patriarche Père & Fils” and turned it into one of the biggest wine trading house in Burgundy.

In 2011, André and Jacques Boisseaux sold Patriarche for an amount estimated between 70 and 90 M€ to the French group Castel, based in Bordeaux, who ensures the continuous success of the company.

From the 17th century chapel of the convent, one can enter an impressive labyrinth of cellars and galleries over 5 km. They were built in the 18th and 19th century. There, wine is raised in casks and barrels, and around 3 million bottles are stored, some dating back to the turn of the 20th century.

Some prestigious bottles are aged in the cellar: Meursault, Pommard, Nuit-Saint-Georges, Chassagne-Montrachet. The company also makes sparkling wines, Brut, Rosé, and White Crémant de Bourgogne.

Patriarche Père et Fils offers an audio guided tour, starting in the Galerie des Foudres (cask gallery) and ending in the tasting cellars dating back to the 18th and 19th century. Along this itinerary, you will discover the greatest cellar in Burgundy and taste 10 different wines with a tasting cup.
